Architecture en Champagne
The lodge is located on a small chalk ridge line: Mont Vergon – from the Latin vergo: incline, lean, which faces the Nature Reserve of Pâtis d'Oger and Mesnil-sur-Oger. The plot has a modest block of concrete on which the project is based. The house Michel Mailliard works here in parcels to develop the cuvée Mont Vergon in white.
The lodge was designed to reveal the weak topography of the site and satisfy both the desires of Alexia Mailliard – who wanted to create a terrace sheltered by an awning to enjoy a glass of champagne at sunset, and her brother Gregory - who imagined the elevation of the existing building to take height on the surrounding landscapes. Le Refuge du Mont Vergon offers two spaces with different atmospheres: a covered and intimate terrace at ground level with a paving made of pavers and a balcony that offers a 360° view. The two levels are connected by a straight staircase that starts at the entrance door of the existing lodge and rises facing the landscape.
The lodge is made with long twisted posts of reused wood, which form the frame of the facades and receive wooden frames in which there are bottles of champagne arranged in staggered position and held by a desk board. These frames, organized at different levels, create: a bench that is attached to the existing lodge, a peripheral bar on the floor for tastings, the stair railing and storage spaces for bottles. The floor of the floor, laid in point of Hungary can accommodate about fifteen people.
The installation created contrasts with its materials and colorimetry with the existing lodge, the sun rays that hit the bottles form plays of lights on the lodge. The project was an opportunity to restore the existing lodge: its roof has been redone, a whitewash was applied to its facades and a door was added.
