Architecture en Champagne
Located below the village of Chigny-les-Roses, La Roseraie is sheltered lodge that invites locals and walkers to gather. The plan is in the shape of a double funnel, separated by a gap. The lodges frames Chigny-les-Roses and the vineyard up to Reims. The outer corners allow for the installation of seating oriented towards the vines and the planting of a rosebush along the path. La Roseraie is designed using reused materials. It consists of semi-open horizontal cladding walls, alternating racks elements with larch boards, a staircase made of wooden planks, a raised platform, and an inverted gable roof covered with old church slates and connected by a central gutter that directs rainwater to the base of the rosebush. The structure is airy: the purlins, plates, rafters and battens protrude from the volume. The braces of the framework invite the placement of bottles and flutes during tastings. An old oblong wrought iron window offers a unique view towards the church. The lodge stands out in the landscape due to its height while blending into panorama thanks its lattice envelope, reminiscent of the layout of the vineyard rows.
The lodge pays homage to Madame Pommery, who adorned her Chigny property with a rose garden, in the 19th century.
