Architecture en Champagne
The origin of the name “La Marronnière” is unknown. Is it a reference to a walnut tree planted there long ago, or a place where southerners came to get a tan? In any case, it is where a hiking trail passes through, and a nice walnut tree provides a shady spot in the grass. Continuing the trail, the silhouette of a house forms at the foot of the tree. This is the La Marronnière lodge. Passers-by can discover the contrast between two unobstructed landscapes: on one side, very close, there are vines, and on the other side, below, the Sézanne hillsides dotted with vineyards and orchards.
The lodge is a gathering place for hikers, as well as for locals. It offers a multitude of opportunities to lie down or sit out of the heat of the sun. On the inside, several steps allow you to climb up and see over the vines, and discover a little hamlet hidden in the distance. A concealed niche protects you from being seen and from any unfavorable weather. Lying down reveals a luminous opening that submerges the wanderer in an intimate atmosphere. The facades are made of planks of repurposed pallets, stained with walnut husks. The light slips through the woven covering, like through the leaves on the vines.
La Marronnière is an appellation whose origin remains unknown. Is it a chestnut tree planted here before, or a place where the southerners come whisper?
